Speech Language Pathologist

An SLP is a clinical expert who provides evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of communication, cognition, and swallowing disorders.  The SLP treats a broad range of areas pertaining to communication such as:

-Articulation  (speech sounds)

-Language 

-Fluency (Stuttering)

-Voice 

-Resonance (VPI)

-Pragmatics (Social Skills) 

-Literacy

An SLP must receive a Master's Degree from an accredited speech pathology program,  a passing score on the National Speech-Language Pathology board exam (Praxis),  successful completion of a clinical fellowship year (CFY), and participate in continuing education in order to keep up with the most up to date research.  More information about speech language pathology can be found at the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA)website: www.asha.org
